What do orthotics have to do with chiropractic and back pain?

Like the foundations of a house, your feet support the weight of the body above them. Small, subtle problems in your feet can cause a chain reaction throughout your body and posture as you stand and walk , causing excess stress and strain on joints, muscles and tendons in the feet, knees, hips and even into the back and pelvis.

Orthotics will help correct the alignment of the feet, helping them to concentrate on their original task. The compensation and stress will stop, and thereby the tiredness and pain in other areas can be eliminated.

At Ruoholahden kiropraktikkoasema we will always consider the possibility that your feet may be part of the reason you have joint pain or musclular imbalance, especially for those whose aggravating factors are standing and walking/ jogging.

What is the next step?

A comprehensive gait assessment allows us to determine if your feet are having a negative impact on the way you stand, walk, run and move. Then we will perform a physical examination of your lower limbs and manually correct any restriction we find in the movement of the bones.

This will followed by a GaitScan TM Computerised Analysis. As you walk across the gaitplate its 4096 sensors scan the sole of the foot at a rate of 300 HZ /frames per second. It records the timing/ pressure sequences of your foot as you walk which detects imbalance and indicators of lower limb imbalances, which can then be addressed using a specific custom made orthotic when indicated. This scan also lets us see which specific muscle groups are under stress so that we can plan a specific exercise plan for you to target problem areas.

We have different orthotics for different feet!!

The Dynaflange orthotic (75€) – a new approach in prefabricated orthotics, that manages motion with every step – is a favourite with both our chiropractors and our patients. It has many unique benefits including:
1. Reduced Impact forces: enhanced shock absorption, great for those who are on their feet a lot
2. Dynamic energy return: the patented rearfoot flange flexes during heel strike, storing energy that is released during the subsequent phases of gait, efficiently positioning the foot for optimal propulsion. Dynaflange does the work so you don't have to!
3. They improve postural efficiency, but improving center of pressure and stability thoughout the gait cycle. A great orthotic for standing workers, exercise enthusiasts, and those with heel and arch pain. It also has great results for those with tired legs. This orthotic is both shock absorbing and corrects problems with both pronating and supinating feet, due to it's unique flange design. It is comfortable and outperforms any insert you can buy in a sports shop. This orthotic will fit best inside of trainers and winter boots.

A Custom orthotic (340€) is made when necessary to your specific requirements. The prescription is written from the results of the gait scan described previously to help normalize your gait.
The custom orthotics will take pressure and stresses off overworked tissues, thus helping pain and eliminating the causative factor.
This custom orthotic is made from superior materials and comes with a lifetime warranty against breakage of the shell!!

Semi-customised orthotics (85€) are a more affordable version of our custom orthotic. The shell is not of as high a quality as the superior custom orthotic described above.
With the semi customised it is still possible to add some of the modifications of a custom orthotic to suit your specfic needs. With modifications the semi customised costs 120€.
